New Food invented

On Thursday night Rick and I went to Taco Bell with Rick to get a quick dinner before he scurried off to rehearsal and I to do errands. Rick ended up ordering a Crunch Wrap Supreme (Mm good I know) and a Mexican pizza (*note to self DO NOT tell trainer about dinner Thursday). While devouring our tasty cheap run for the border I had an amazing thought - what if on a crunch wrap instead of using a tostada shell they used a shell from a Mexican pizza? Flakey, crispy and light - Mmm HOW GOOD WOULD THAT BE? I shared this epiphany with Rick who agreed and today sent the suggestion to Taco Bell. How cool will it be if they decide to come out with a new product that I invented? Let me tell you - SUPER FRICKIN' COOL! Also I want to go on record to say, I invented it first!

To challenged to wear shoes

I got up a little earlier than usual this morning specifically to find an outfit that matched my very cute new shoes (Can't beat Payless BOGO for cheap summer sandals). I even ironed a pair of pants specifically to wear with them (I never iron for work). So dressed to match my shoes I head out. All the while thinking to myself – Hmm, these aren’t very sturdy. I get to work and unbeknownst to us today we had a fire drill – I work on the 3rd floor. 3 floors of stairs down and by the bottom my feet hurt and I was most saddened by the prospect of these being labeled uncomfortable. Luckily since my job doesn’t require much movement away from my desk, I was fine until lunch. While at the store buying lunch, I was thinking “why aren’t these shoes more comfy? Should I have gotten a smaller size? I just don’t get it – how do women wear these, how do they keep them on?” I pondered this idea while on my way back to work. When I got back to work it finally dawned on me – MAYBE I should tie the ribbon AROUND my ankle instead of behind my heal (which is how they were tied at the store). Once on at my desk, I switched the ribbon and low and behold – suddenly these shoes stay on my feet! Suddenly they’re not uncomfortable – imagine that (see the picture of said shoe below – NOTE this is off the payless website – the ribbon in the store made it look like it went to the heal not the ankle!!). Now my feet are riddled with blisters from wearing them wrong for more than half the day.
Moral of this part of the story – I am too retarded to put on shoes alone.

Rick's Vegas Picks

My adorable hubby had a friend at work who is headed to Vegas (all I can say is bastards! I want to go to Vegas), being the sweet and caring guy that he is as well as his passion for all things Vegas, he put together a list of some of our favorites. Vegas is a favorite vacation spot of ours and have a tradition of going every 4th of July, and whenever else the budge allows we jet off for a long weekend. I've posted it for your vacationing pleasure - as I read the reasons why, I am transported if just for a minute to a place where the air is dry, the Fat Tuesdays and strong and readily available and the sin is everywhere. And for just that quick moment - I feel like I am home!! Check out his picks:

Drinks:
Fat Tuesday's
Location: Caesar's, MGM Grand, Stratosphere and Alladin Mall:
Cuisine: Beverage stop
Reservations: n/a
Price Range: $6-8.00 for a good one
Hours: 10-10 at least
Attire: Casual
Why it's a Rick's Pick: Like Slurpees?? This is the place for you. They offer a multitude of frozen drinks on tap as well as a full bar. You will notice a plethera of imposters up and down the strip with your "Yard'-a-ritas" and frozen drinks on tap....but be warned...they are not the same! This place has the best selection and best tasting selection of these bad-boys on the strip. My recomendation...190 Octane. This is a Orange Slurpee with mixed with Vodka and 190 proof grain alcohol. Sounds scary...I know, but they are not overpowering. Thats actually the bad part. By the time you finish your tasty beverage you dont know what happened, but your well..."well on your way" lets say. What is even more delightful is that the collectable test tube of 190 proof grain alcohol floating in you frozen goody is just one more dollar. What (James)...still want more?? Well toss in a cherry bomb (marischino cherries, drained of juice and soaked for 30 days in well..190 proof grain alcohol (notice a theme). Notice: for all you ladies out there, jello shots with whipcream and filled with everclear are just two dollars and before I completely scare you off, they also have normal drinks with reasonable levels of (non grain) alcohol. Margaritas, Daqueries, Mud Slides and Fuzzy Navels to name a few. And...buy a collectable cup and when you need a refill you get a few bucks off.
Harrah's Pavillion:
Location: Under the umbrella outside Harrahs's
Cuisine: Beverage Stop (they do have food/appetizers)
Reservations: n/a
Price Range: $6-8.00 for a good one (tip big for a good show)
Hours: early-late
Attire: Casual
Why it's a Rick's Pick: Amazing flair bar...outside and relaxing, live music and all together fun, this is one of our favorite chill spots. We can kick it at this place for hours sometimes. Make sure to say hi to Flippy for me (he wont know who I am). For a preview of his work...
http://www.starsofthebars.com/second/video_gallery.cfm (see chico sun video, Tim "Flippy" Morris). He is super cool and fun to watch and will keep you entertained! Make sure if he is not working to find out when he is and go back. Its worth it!
****WHILE YOUR HERE: Outside you will see show girls..ask them for the FREE tickets to Ron Lucas and Mac King, they are super nice and will give you as many as you need, each is good for two peeps... (see entertainment)****

Why it's a Rick's Pick: Relax and enjoy a pomegranate martini while taking in the breathtaking view of Lake Bellagio. This is a fancier lounge, but peacefull and relaxing. (This is my brothers fav place in Vegas)

Food:

Guardaños:
Location: Palms - 4321 W Flamingo Rd
Get directions
Cuisine: Mexican
Reservations: Optional (866) 942-7777
Price Range: $15 or less (p/ entree, mostly as I recall less)
Hours: Mon-Thu 11am-10pm Fri-Sat 11am-3pm Sun 10am-3pm, 4pm-10pm
Attire: Casual
Why it's a Rick's Pick: Hands down, just the best mexican food ever. Good food, huge portions and amazing, out of control Margaritas. On one occation I had the pleasure to enjoy the Empañada Trio, three soft fluffy pillows of fry bread stuffed lovingly with (resepectively) tender, savory carnitas, sizzling, juicy beef, and moist, gently spicy chicken. These are no 1/2 dollar pancakes either. They are the size of your fist and absolutely delicious. On the same trip HW (hot wife) enjoyed a delicious chile relleno, fried to a perfect crust, overflowing with melted cheese, and smothered in a spicy tomato sauce. Each entree comes with rice and beans. Oh..yeah..the waiter is coming back over. "He has what??? A basket of fresh empeñadas, just plain...?? Oh sir, sorry...we didnt order these" To which he replies, "they are complimentary with your meal. Please enjoy them with our compliments and some fresh butter and honey." Wow-ee! I know. No room for dessert?? I understand, besides, that fruit margarita you ordered is dessert enough. Freshly blended fruit, tequila and sweet and sour, lovingly blended and poured into a gigantic glass that has been brimmed with sweet honey and freshly toasted coconut. For a fun Sunday...head over for the Sunday Morning Margarita Brunch...your favorite Brunch classics, plus delicious mexican specialties. Yumm...
****TIP: if you are going to the Palms from the strip, take the free shuttle from Harrah's to the Rio and a cab from the Rio to the Palm's, saves like 5-10 bucks in cab fare!****
Alan Albert's Steak House:
Location: On the strip 3763 Las Vegas Blvd
Cuisine: Steak House
Reservations: Reccomended (702) 740-4421
Price Range: $15-20 (p/ entree, varies on cut of beef)
Hours: Call
Attire: Comfortably Nice (business casual at least)
Why it's a Rick's Pick: Delicious and fun, in a very low key, relaxing atmosphere. Calm lighting and seperate booths make the restaurant an intimate, calming place to relax. The steaks are hearty and the portions great. The vintage Vegas portraits and decor, help to make it almost imaginable that you could be enjoying your tender roasted 18oz prime rib and potato as Sammy, Dean or The Chairman regailed you (bowties untied and cigars lit, ice clinking harmoniously in their bourban) of last nights show at the Sahara. Somewhat fancy...but you feel like your treating yourself. Side note: extensive wine list as well.
The Creperie at the Paris:
Location: Inside the Paris (in the shoppingish area)
Cuisine: Crepes
Reservations: walk up
Price Range: $6-8 (as a snack three people can share 2 crepes)
Hours: 10-9?
Attire: very casual
Why it's a Rick's Pick: Fresh fluffy crepes available filled with a variety of toppings. We always have...shall we say the usual? We order the Ham and Cheese Crepe, and the Nutella and Banana Crepe. (when you get there you will have to figure out which one it is, as they have fancy french names I cant remember. This is always a morning or afternoon snack stop for us. They also have hard cider in the bottle, a favorite of mine, and not easy to find elsewhere in Vegas.

We also do a lot of snacking and cheap eating on the go...I like:
Fat Burger (on the strip)
Fitzeralds (on the strip, has a food court with huge baked potatoes, hot dogs, donuts, pizza and mexican items at rock bottom prices. Super Good though...
Anything from a cart self explanitory

Flap Update!!

04/27/2006
13:11pst - flap has been emerged in water since yesterday. After leaving work yesterday I placed it in an old contact case to help keep wet & control the experiment area. As of right now, it is the slightly larger than when lost yesterday. The color has changed to a whitish pink.

Anyone know where I could find a microscope to use for a bit?
Stay tuned for more updates.

I can't breaff!!

Last night I worked out with my personal trainer. Usually both my husband and I go together and "buddy train". But Rick had a tooth pulled and can't workout until next Monday - forcing me to go "get healthy" alone last night.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE working out and having a personal trainer is GREAT. Especially ours - Evelio. He's super nice and I feel like he really pushes me. However let me explain about buddy training versus solo training. When both of us are there to workout Evelio has to split his time between us. Therefore he isn't watching me like a hawk 100% of the time. When just one of us goes - HAWK all the way! This is bad. When Rick's there and I am on my 3 set of bench squats with weights doing simultaneous shoulder presses I don't have to go all the way down, I can fudge it a little and give my crying thigh muscles a much needed reprieve whilst I sacrifice Rick to Evelio's watchful eye.

This was NOT the case last night. We started the workout with squats, apparently I wasn't going low enough from him, although I PERSONALLY thought I was plenty low - we tend to disagree on this point often, so mid set he changed them to bench squats. Same when I went to the next exercise of sumo squats, not low enough hit the bench (explanation for those not familiar: bench squats are where you have to lower yourself so that your bum hits the top of the workout bench and then go directly back up - NO resting on the bench. Side note does anyone else notice that you only have to change 2 letters in bench to make it say bitch? Coincident? I think NOT!).

By the end of the first circuit I thought I was dying! Evelio thought this was HILARIOUS and decided that after the first circuit of 3 sets we'd do abs. Now I love crunches as much as the next person but let me reiterate "I CAN'T BREAFF!!" 3 set of abs, doing 30 seconds on 4 different exercising - NEVER STOPPING. My body thought I had declared a war against it! Luckily on the end of the last set - his girlfriend came in and his attention was momentarily taken off of my air sucking, lifeless, muscle crying body.

Since I am writing this I guess you're able to tell I did survive. I am only mildly sore even though yesterday I was convinced I would be unable to walk, move my arms or breath today. I told Evelio yesterday he was getting written up about in my blog, he just laughed. Quick plug for our training facility. We go to S&B Elite http://www.sbelite.com/ . And I can not sing their praises enough. Not only is Evelio WONDERFUL but so are all the other trainers there. They're all very friendly and helpful and couldn't make you feel better about sweating your arse off! Check them out for all your personal training needs!

Tooth Flap!

A few months ago (November 11th to be exact) I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. For most people this wouldn't have been a big deal - but for me it was a HUGE deal for several reasons:

  • I had all four teeth removed at the same time
  • 3 of the 4 were impacted and 2 of them were bony impactions
  • I had been in mass amounts of pain due to my lovely wisdom teeth (which in my opinion had given me NO WISDOM).
  • I am only truly afraid of two things in this world - snakes and the dentist (I think this is because they're the same species)

I guess I was lucky - I was referred to a WONDERFUL oral surgeon Dr. Robbin's in Citrus Heights. I met with him the day before my surgery and had the pleasure of watching the oral surgery equivalent to Red Asphalt. If I wasn't afraid to have my teeth pulled before - I certainly was now. However no worries - when I left their office that day they armed me with 3 (that's right I said 3!) valium (WOOHOO!) and instructions to take one that night and two the next morning before coming in. Having never taken valium before this was a new drug for me and let me tell they really calm ya down!

The next afternoon I showed up and was taken off to my gloom. In the room they strapped me to the chair did my IV (Thankfully I was having a general anesthesia for my procedure), put heart monitors on my ankle and a snuffalupagus hose on my nose where I was then instructed to breath deeply. Next thing I know they're waking me up and I am laughing laughing laughing and my mouth is full of gauze. My husband and mother are brought in to escort me out and I can't stop giggling (thank heaven for whatever was in that nose hose)!

I get home and have an excellent if not speed recovery. I experience little swelling and with the aid of vicodin, ice packs & later tylenol, no pain. Once the stitches are removed a week later and my tongue is able to explore my now missing teeth area I notice that my top left gum area there is a flap. Nothing major but none the less a flap.

For the next 5 months I find my tongue inadvertently playing with this flap. I know I know GROSS. I even find my self annoyed with it. Fast forward to yesterday. My gum in that area was a little tender last night - no real reason why. Then this morning, after running late to work, I was sitting at my computer when I noticed my flap felt funny. And then much to my wonderment - the flap fell off!

Now I am staring down this little piece of tissue that has entertained and annoyed me since November and I wonder 'what will I ever do with this'? Being the inquisitive and tomboyish girl I am - I of course decide to immediately email my hubby with the news and we both decide that the best idea would be to of course keep the fallen flap and watch what happens to it. In essence we are doing a science project. As such - here is our lab paper:

1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.
Unattatched gum flap removed from mouth at 9:30pst. Upon removal and observation, gum flap began to dry out. At time of removal gum flap measured 1cm (size of pomegranate seed), left alone, gum flap dried to .25cm (size of tomato seed). Phenomena to be tested is once submerged in water, will gum flap return to original size at time of removal.

2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation. Due to rapid dehydration at time of removal, gum flap reduced in size exponentially. If submerged again, re-hydration will cause the flap to restore to normal size.

3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations. Flap may even get larger if allowed to consume an excess amount of water.

4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments.

  1. 13:26pst flap is resubmerged in water to test hypothesis
  2. 13:52pst flap has increased in size and color has changed along the outer edge and has become lighter in shade
  3. 14:22pst flap is now double the size of when first emerged into water and is returning to the same color of light pink. Secimen has used all the water first put in experiement causing more water to be added.

Stay tuned for updates as to the status of "The Flap".

First Blog

What fun. My first blog entry. I am not so sure what to write! Here I thought my pen (or rather fingers) would runneth over with witty remarks and funny stories and yet I am stricken with nothing yet to share. I guess thats what happens on Wednesdays though. Middle of the week lull.

I actually rather like Wednesdays. What isn't to like about them really? They're the middle - they what moves us on to the end of the week. On Wednesday we are only 2 work days away from weekend freedom!! Two full days where we don't have to deal with the pressure of work and the chaos of week life. Yep in my book - Wednesdays are pretty good.

Enjoy your Wednesday!
